"Sofia's People" (on vimeo)

No storyline per se - but nice use of available lighting for drama, highlights, moods etc.

I love this movie, and this is my favorite scene! Oh, and the lighting throughout is quite good too; very dramatic and colorful.

Movie! Get excited

So this short film a friend of mine made, and that I totally adore. It has so much in it, and she's very talented. I'm honestly not trying to promote her, I just really like her short.

And watch it in HD--the color looks a little better that way.

Laura's Story

I thought this was a very well done short that seemed to use photographic techniques to great effect. Enjoy.

Short film from IFC site

"Shiner" by E.S. Wochensky, Highway End Films

(ignore the AutoMat sponsor message)

This is a quirky short with a nice vague plot. It has a lot of the elements we discussed last week: close-up/medium/long shots for different intensities, tripod/hand-held shots, z-axis shots with lots of background interest, motion vectors with headroom etc.

The mower and single line of dialog provide initial tension and comic touches.

Home work Week 1

Hello! I hope everyone finds this place and can post, here is what the homework was.

Homework: Browse the internet, looking for examples of good short films. Avoid video spam (videos like people dancing in front of their webcams), and look for videos that have been carefully and/or considerately constructed. They can be short films from online festivals, or posts made on personal blogs. Post links to your favorite short films, videos, vlogs to our course blog.

so get to work and see you all Wednesday.
